Patios in Niwot: five places to sit outside, and which one for when

Niwot has more outdoor seating than a town of four thousand has any right to, and most of it faces something worth looking at. Five places, and the conditions each one suits.

For a summer evening: the Niwot Tavern

The Niwot Tavern has a covered patio on the corner of Cottonwood Square, facing the square and the bronze bear sculptures. The cover means a July afternoon is bearable and a passing thunderstorm is not the end of dinner. Open daily from 11 to 9.

For a warm lunch: Raza Fresa

Next door on the square, Raza Fresa puts its tables under umbrellas along the walkway. Dine in, take out or eat outside, which in Niwot is possible most of the year. Sunday to Wednesday 11 to 8:30, Thursday to Saturday until 9.

For October: Cimmini’s

Cimmini’s, on the quieter 300 block of Second Avenue, has a heated front patio, which extends the outdoor season well past the point where the others have gone inside. Scratch-made Italian, open since January 2022; lunch and dinner Wednesday to Friday, brunch and dinner at the weekend. Menus and hours are on the restaurant’s site.

For a band: The Wheel House

The Wheel House, at the west end of Second Avenue, is a taproom with a back patio, musicians on stage most nights of the week and trivia on Tuesdays. It opened in September 2020 and added its own kitchen in February 2026. Closed Mondays; from 11 Tuesday to Saturday, 3 on Sundays.

For the dog: Fritz Family Brewers

Fritz Family Brewers is a few minutes south on 79th Street, a family brewery known for clean German-style lagers, and it takes children in the taproom and dogs on the patio. Weekdays from 3, Friday from 1, weekends from noon.
